A House is Made of ....

May is here and another challenge at Creative Artiste is here.  The theme is Mixed Media Anything Goes.

The term “mixed media art” is a broad definition that covers many arts and crafts, including collage, assemblage (both 2D and 3D), altered objects, including books and boxes, handmade greeting cards, artist trading cards (ATCs) and tags, art journalling and book making as long as you use more then 2 different media's.
The “mixed media” used includes paints, papers and broad range of all descriptions, glues, buttons, fabrics, found objects, photos, metal bits, fibres, things from nature, inks, pencils, crayons, markers, pastels and polymer clays, to name a few.

Our sponsor this month is the Girls at Lindy's. Lindy's Gang is a great company for mixed media supplies.  If you have not been to their online it should be a must place to check out their supplies.

I found a plaque at the thrift store of a house and decided the shape was just perfect for my project.  I sanded  the house and then added my design. To create  project I used a combination of stencils, paints, pages of an old book, Tim Holtz's found relatives, a sentiment, keys, crown, house number, and a crescent moon.

closer look at the sentiment

To personalized my project I by adding the crown, crescent and and house number since this is my own house address.

Encaustic Transfer and Citrasolv Collage

It is the 1st  of May and time for another great altered art challenge at Altered Eclectics. This challenge is always an Anything Goes Challenge.  The only rules are that your project must be either altered art or mixed media and not a card or ATC.

I love this challenge blog because every month I can try something different and it challenges your creativity.

This month I tried two different techniques I have been wanting to do.  I had never done an Encaustic wax image transfer or used paper I created using Citrasolv on National Geographic paper.  I had learnt the encaustic transfer technique in a class by Donna Downy.  The heron image was a free image from Graphic Fairy.

I added about 5 layers of Encaustic Medium to my board before I started my painting. Using Citrasolv on National Geographic paper gives some great patterns and I thought would be interesting as my mountain in my scene.  I carved my mountains and trees and used a burnt umber oil stick to fill in the lines and edge the picture.

Thank you for stopping by and have a creative week.  Remember to pop over to our challenge blog to see the  wonderful creative projects of our talented design team.

Big Chief

It is May and time for another challenge at Eclectic Ellapu.  The theme is anything Goes.  Hope you will join us this month.

I decided for this challenge to use an first Nations stamp I have had in my collection for a very long time but I have forgotten who the manufacture of the stamp is.

The feather headband was stamped on some watercolour paper that I had used Brusho on.  I liked the effect of the splatters on the feathers.  I also used a Tim Holts die for the arrow.  I used the revered image as a stencil.  The feathers are also dies from my collection.

Thank you for stopping by and remember to pop over to our challenge blog to see the inspiring creations of our design team.    Remember my favourite saying from  Maya Angelou. “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
